β The District Said $11,000. The Records Say $19,216.51.
On February 24, 2026, the district sent Student Happenings #26 responding to student concerns. Here is what they claimed versus what the FOIA records show.
"Amity is not increasing its spending on AI platforms this year. Amity purchased Magic School AI in the 2025-26 school year for $11,000."
The district spent $19,216.51 across five AI products. They named one. The records document four more, including two direct OpenAI/ChatGPT contracts totaling $7,416.53.
"There is no evidence or credible claims connecting MagicSchool AI to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement."
The district holds two active, paid, direct contracts with OpenAI, the company with a documented ICE contract. Invoice numbers and check amounts are below.
"We are working on obtaining an original copy of the AI policy for teachers, as well as a full listing of the AI tools that the district pays for."
The district cited a policy it does not yet have in hand as evidence students have nothing to worry about. They also admitted they cannot produce a complete list of AI tools they are funding.

The Gap They Hoped You Wouldn't Notice
The district's response to student concerns named one product and one dollar amount. The FOIA records document four additional AI tools purchased this school year, spread across two departments and three vendors. Whether the omission was intentional or reflects a genuine lack of internal awareness (the administration's own email admits they are still working on obtaining a complete list of AI tools the district funds) the effect is the same: students were given an incomplete picture.
